Redcourt House to be listed building

Redcourt House on Seafield Road, Clontarf is to be a listed building.  The issue came before the council at their regular monthly meeting in the Mansion House and was past by a vote of the council.  The effect of the decision will mean that the facade of the house will be kept intact.  There was a significant amount of local opposition in Clontarf to the development of apartments at the location.  A council offricial mentioned the possibility that the council could be sued in the event of the development not going ahead, but this was rejected by councillors.

The building ( c1900) is built in the Edwardian style, with decorative barge boarding, arched entrance, and terracotta balustraded balcony, typical of Ewardian constructions of the period.  Although originally a part of the separate village of Dollymount, this area merged with Clontarf at the end of the 19th century. Originally the planning department had rejected a request to list the house as an important building.  The listing was welcomed by T.D. Sean Haughey (FF) who has campaigned on the issue as had other local councillors.
